Improvising a Washing LineSubmitted by An Outdoor Idiots Team Member. Improvising a Washing LineA line for hanging out wet clothes, or for hanging up anything else you might need to hang up, can be easily improvised from any length of string, cord or rope. Pegs are not required!![]() If you want to re-live the excitement of the above photo, then here is a pictorial guide to making your own: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [Note, the photos above and below are for demonstration only. The cord hasn't been tied between posts, and so the twists appear to be quite loose in the photo. Also, it works well with any colour of socks - they do not have to be black. Please write in if you experience otherwise.] ![]() If you need to hang a lot of things, or heavy things like sleeping bags, then it helps to use thicker cord, and to make lots of twists. The number of twists, and how tightly you can tie the cord between posts or trees, directly affects how well the twists will grip whatever you feed through them. This sort of clothesline can be improvised in many situations. For example, if you just want to dry out small and light items like socks, then you can turn a guy line on a pitched tent into a mini washing line.
