The Leatherman Blast: Small Bit Driver

What at first appears to be simply a small cross head screwdriver...

Leatherman Blast Bit Driver
A small cross head screwdriver?

... turns out to be a general-purpose bit driver, which happened to have a small screw bit inserted into it:

A small double-ended bit

The bit can simply be pulled out and stuck back in again; the futuristic looking bit driver assembly contains a stiff spring that holds the bit in place.

Note that the bit that comes with the Blast is double-ended. There is a small flat head screwdriver on one end and a small cross head screwdriver on the other end. So you can stick it back in the other way round:

If there are any other bits available that fit into the small bit driver then we can't find reference to them - we look forward to somebody else finding them for us and telling us about them.

Perhaps the most common use for this particular item is to tighten up screws on spectacles using the small flat head screwdriver. Indeed, the Leatherman web site refers to this as an "eyeglass screwdriver". So let's have a go at that, then:

What a spectacle, etc.

We can confirm that it works. However, the flat head is surprisingly thick, and only just managed to fit into the screw of the spectacles in question. Looks like there's another job for the metal file.

Small bit driver summary: Just looking at it will make you feel exactly like Buck Rogers. And you will be able to look at it, because it will have stopped the lenses in your glasses falling out.
